Overview
SSC CPO (Central Police Organisation) exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Sub-Inspectors (SIs) in Delhi Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF — BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB), and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in CISF. This is one of the most popular exams for candidates seeking a career in law enforcement at the Central Government level.
For BA graduates who are physically fit and aspire to join the police services, SSC CPO offers a direct entry into SI-level positions — which is a supervisory rank in the police hierarchy. Unlike state police SI exams (which vary by state), SSC CPO is a single national-level exam providing opportunities in multiple forces across India.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree from any recognised university or equivalent.
- No minimum percentage. A pass-class degree is sufficient.
- All streams eligible: BA, BSc, BCom, BTech — no preference given to any stream.
- Final year students can apply but must have the degree at the time of document verification.

Conclusion
SSC CPO is the gateway for BA graduates to join prestigious police and paramilitary forces as Sub-Inspector. The eligibility is straightforward — Bachelor's degree (BA fully valid) with mandatory physical fitness standards. The exam offers three types of postings: Delhi Police SI (Law enforcement in India's capital), CAPF SI (BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB — border security and internal security), and ASI in CISF (industrial security). While the salary (₹42,000-₹55,000/month) is slightly lower than SSC CGL Inspector posts, the CAPF allowances for field areas can significantly boost total compensation. For Arts graduates who combine academic ability with physical fitness, SSC CPO provides a direct path to a uniformed officer career with immense responsibility and career growth potential.
